Candidate Events and Voter Guides
Plus good news: our network is now over 400 members strong!
A giant thank you! Happy to report that over 400 Utahns have signed up for the Network of Utah Moderates in just over a week. We’re so glad to meet new friends and make new connections—virtually, for now. (But perhaps also at the in-person events we’re sharing!)
As one subscriber put it:
“It’s encouraging to know that there are people who still believe in dialogue, compromise, civility, and upholding constitutional checks and balances, and want to restore these values to our political system.”
We wholeheartedly agree.
Meet the Candidates Events
Some Network members have told us about in-person candidate events coming up. When making voting decisions, we’ve found it especially helpful to go listen to (and chat with) candidates in person. It can be very revealing to learn about how candidates respond and treat others as well as their governing philosophy and policies.
In our experience, only a few citizens show up to these events—which can give those few voices outsized weight. wot everyone can go, but show up when and where you can. We’ll always encourage informed, engaged citizens!
Senate District 21
For those in Senate District 21, tonight is a chance to meet both candidates for state Senate (sorry for publishing this so late). SD 21 includes much of northeastern Utah County, from parts of eastern Lehi, over to Alpine, down to parts of Lindon and most everything in-between. (SD 21 might be gerrymandered

Voting Guides
The primary election ends June 23, and tomorrow (June 12) is the last day to request a ballot online. Voters can still register or vote in person with proper ID at their county’s election sites up until June 23. Learn more at vote.utah.gov.
Meanwhile, we’re keeping busy adding voter guides for important primary elections. In the past few days, we’ve published the following (sans email—trying not to spam anyone):
Utah State Board of Education District 11: Tracy Nuttall and Terry Hutchinson
Utah State House District 14: Kara Toone and John Taylor
Davis County Clerk: Brian McKenzie and Jona Whitesides
Davis County Sheriff: Jon Atkin and Aaron Perry
Davis County Commissioner Seat A: Kendalyn Harris, John Adams, and Scott Fletcher
You may note these are all Republican primaries. Frankly, most of Utah’s competitive elections are between Republicans—and often that is the “real” election. (But at least one Democratic primary guide coming soon!) If you’re an affiliated voter who wants to vote in your local Republican primary, note that you can still affiliate with the party to vote.
We’re planning to add more voter guides in the coming days, so check back on our Substack. Reach out at networkofutahmoderates@gmail.com if you have insights, questions, or if there’s a specific race you’re looking for more information on.
Thanks to those of you who’ve reached out so far, and happy Thursday!

Thank you so much!
